Safety through Expertise
Safety is a paramount concern to LPG producers. The health and safety of employees, contractors, customers and the general public is of prime importance. The industry strives to ensure that everyone producing, transporting, selling and using LPG is aware of how to do so safely and securely. LPG industry associations promote compliance with health, safety and environment standards and good business practices in the LPG industry. The World LP Gas Association advocates these standards through its two publications ‘Good Safety Practices’ and ‘Good Business Practices’. Members of the WLPGA sign a Code of Conduct upon joining the association to show that the member adheres to good safety and industry practices. Please click here for more information: People all around the world use LPG safely every day for their cooking, heating, driving, camping and many other uses. To help ensure a safe environment while using LPG, LPG companies share the following brief safety tips with customers :
- LPG is flammable like all petroleum fuels. It must be stored away from sources of ignition and in a well-ventilated area
- LPG can be detected by a typically unpleasant odour of gas
- LPG vapour is heavier than air. Any leakage will sink to the ground and accumulate in low lying areas
- There are special tanks which are specifically designed for use underground
- LPG expands rapidly when the temperature rises. So whenever a container is filled, sufficient space is left for expansion
- LPG will cause natural rubber and some plastics to deteriorate. Only use hoses and other equipment specifically designed for LPG
- Although LPG is non-toxic , it is an asphixiant and its abuse is highly dangerous. Treat LPG with respect.
